Recording: My @PodcampOhio Session

22 Aug

At Podcamp Ohio, I did an afternoon session called “Podcast Visibility and Internetiquette“:

Description: A round table discussion about how to properly and appropriately interact with your podcast audience online, because it’s important to know where the line is between properly promoting your content, and riving away viewers and fans with overly zealous marketing and poor knowledge of netiquette. The session will be a casual brainstorming/debate session about how to properly use social networking sites, blogging, email and microblogging services like Twitter and Pownce to keep fans updated without turning into a spambot.

I think the session went pretty well… I’m terrified to listen to the recording of the session (I’d actually thought there was a video recording… I know they recorded video the whole time, but maybe opted for just providing the audio? Don’t know.) because I’d like to just remember the session as a lot of fun, with pretty decent audience participation, and listening to myself talk just sounds scary.

However, if you would like to listen to the session, you can do so here:

Basically, I had everyone come up and write as many social networking and other sites as they could think of (any method the audience uses to promote or put out their online content) on the markerboard, and we tried to discuss as many of them as possible, in terms of how to use them appropriately and how we’ve all seen people use the sites in ways that actually drive users/fans/readers away.

It was a lot of fun, and hopefully, it’s a halfway decent listen. :)

  • You session really was great and i loved the audience participation you had. Coefficient Media just recorded the audio or the session. I know there was someone there with a camera but I am not sure what or who that was for.

PS. thanks for introducing me to Tube Mogul, I love it!
  • Thanks and I'm glad that you enjoyed the session. :) I'm also glad you're loving TubeMogul! ;)
  • I had to make a recording of myself for a class assignment once (I recorded myself in a tutoring session) - the whole class had to do it, of course. I think most folks were a bit apprehensive about listening to themselves for a lot of reasons, but it turned out to be a really excellent experience, and when I analyzed everything about my session, I really learned a lot. It was definitely helpful to really consider what I was doing well, and what I could be doing better; and that awareness made me a better tutor.

I think if you haven't listened to yourself already, you should; everyone thinks they sound awful on tape, but if you're able to discern your strengths and weaknesses, future sessions will be better for it.
  • Good tips, thank you. :)
