Rediscovering a Pen Love Affair
11 Mar
Today, I contracted an old itch. I have long had a love affair with quality writing utensils and when I looked over today and saw one of the doctors at internship writing progress notes with a shiny Waterman fountain pen, I felt a pang of chewed-Papermate-ballpoint shame.
There is something seriously addictive about the perfect pen, and in an age when handwritten is pretty infrequent for the day to day things like datebooks (iCal/Outlook), check writing (what’s that???), and communication (can haz email?), it’s easy for me to forget the feeling of scrawling on a clean piece of paper with high quality pen.
I couldn’t find either of my Waterman fountain pens when I got home, but I did find my two disposable Pilot Varsity fountain pens and it’s enough of a quality boost to have me scrambling to find things to scribble on. My handwriting changes, the pen just glides over the blank page, and regardless of what I’ve just written, it feels three times as important in a beautiful, scrawling fountain pen script.
I’m glad I remembered the importance of a good pen while I’m on such an enthusiastic scribble-blogging kick. :)
