Couch-to-5k

20 Feb

I had a really crazy idea today. I think, after almost 29 years of being a lazy ass who could never do a mile in gym class in under 15 minutes, that I am going to take up running in the very near future. I’m thinking specifically of doing the Couch-to-5K program, a 9 week program that claims to have a couch potato running 3 miles at completion.

Am I crazy? Should I try something else first? Is it unrealistic to take up running this late in the game, when I’m so out of shape and it’s pretty darn cold outside?

Do you want to do it with me? ;)

Trying to decide when to start, because I don’t really have decent shoes and I want to get an armband to hold my iPhone so that I can use the C25K app along with my iPod library.

I think I may have lost my mind. I guess we’ll see?

  • I've wanted to start running for awhile now. Maybe this is the time to start.
  • So proud of you for starting!
  • Dude, I think that's an awesome idea! I think this is a completely realistic idea. The whole point of the program is to take people like you (very unfit) and turn them into runners!

I did Runner's World very similar program (it focuses on time not distance, getting you up to running 30 minutes consecutively...which at 10min/mile pace is about a 5k). http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-2...

Hey, maybe as motivation, you could sign up for a race? A Memorial Day 5k perhaps? http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/racefinderdetai...

You can seriously do ANYTHING you put your mind to! The only thing you need to run is a good pair of shoes, so do prepare to go get some. WOO!
