Fool: A Novel by Christopher Moore
My review
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Having never read King Lear or seen the play, and having never read Christopher Moore, I didn’t know what to expect from this book, except that I’ve heard Moore is usually a funny read.
This book starts off fairly slowly, but by the end of Act I, I was pulled in and found myself really enjoying the humor in the book. The dialogue sometimes misses the mark, since Moore is an American doing a comical old-school British dialect, but when it doesn’t miss the mark, it’s really quite funny, and the back story passages are really well written, often more comical then the dialogue.
Moore clearly has talent as a comedic writer, and although this book isn’t a complete home run, I laughed out loud at times, and came away from the book feeling that I’d been thoroughly entertained. I’ll be reading more of Moore in the future.
